Cécile Filipe

Cécile Filipe, was born in Lisbon and immigrated to France at ten years old. She is a child of a French mother and a Portuguese father. She studied interior architecture. (Degree from Camondo School 1991). After a career as an interior architect led in parallel with painting, she now devotes herself exclusively to painting.

She draws all her energy and her inspiration of her past of architect and her Lisboète childhood. Her instinctive and uncluttered compositions return us to her memory marked with soft sadness and with desire: the saudade. Sad and soft memory of people or distant or disappeared things, accompanied with the desire to see them again or to possess them again.

Her paint is strong, incisive and without compromise it transports us and upsets us. The artwork calls on to the memory, to the memories and awakens in us a buried feeling, an emotion which submerges us. Her work on the material, in transparency is constituted by pictorial layers and by successive, used, snatches, evoked words, tracks, hanging threads, light cut in the billhook.

She plays with the visible and the hidden, everything is suggested, nothing is said, extreme sensibility and pure emotion, her work fills us and eventually lives in us completely.
