Erik Minter
Erik Minter lives and works in New Jersey. Minter received his BFA from Pratt Institute in 2000 and has ventured into multiple creative fields, mainly as a multi-disciplinary designer. He has received several design awards and exhibited his work in both solo and group shows in and around New York. Erik is currently represented by Rosenbaum Contemporary.
He went on to work for many prominent artists, later to shift into the commercial art world designing for both large and small companies. Since then Minter has returned back to painting where his work plays on bold, vibrant color combinations often met with sky-tone gradients that weave between graphical shapes and fluid-like splashes. Combining abstraction with surreal figuration, Minter has moved from digital drawings and photographic manipulations to paint and the physical surface, seeking to capture the emotion of experiences, either lived or dreamed, and to express his feelings and curiosity about life. With different layers that unfold over time, each work gives way to new discoveries. His technique, both premeditated and unplanned, channels him to find and explore pleasures, ironies and the mutable and plastic nature of existence.
He likes to incorporate vibrant color combinations with sky-tone gradients that weave between graphic shapes and fluid splashes. Combining abstraction with surreal figuration, he's searching to capture the emotion of an experience, perhaps once had or dreamt. He feels his own technique or tendencies are both premeditated and unplanned, channeling him to find and explore the pleasures and ironies in the mutable and plastic nature of existence.
