Ioannis Lassithiotakis
Ioannis Lassithiotakis was born in Crete in 1956. He studied painting at ACCADEMIA DI BELLE ARTI in Florence.
According to Harris Hatziioannou: “…Ioannis Lassithiotakis’ trajectory towards greater abstraction, which we pointed out in the beginning, does not necessarily lead him to a permanent distancing from representation, considering that the differences between his abstract art and classical representational painting is not as great as it might first seem. Perhaps we could succinctly locate the main differences, first, in the fact that abstract works rely on more indirect, elliptical or non-conventional symbolisms and, second, in the fact that these works are less saturated than representational ones, that is, they require greater and more active participation on the part of the viewer in order to be ‘completed’. But, apart from that, these highly abstract compositions are in the end destined to operate like a portrait, a still life, a vanitas operate, that is, by giving rise, in a visual way, to personal reflection regarding the fundamental elements of the world and of the human experience within it. For if the world is not completely describable with language, then perhaps pictures such as Lassithiotakis’ artistic creations can provide us with one more path to investigate its mystery and understand somewhat better our place in it.”
He has conducted 30 solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions in Greece, Germany, Italy, USA, Japan, Australia, Belgium, South Africa, USA. Emirates.
