Joris Graaf

Joris Graaf, (The Hague, 1980), is a self-taught visual artist that seeks to create tension by forming a synthesis of opposites: noise and melody, order and chaos, growth and decay. He produces abstract paintings and digital photo art.

Purely driven by emotion, his work revolves around themes such as loneliness, fear and depression. Music and the associated visuals, such as album covers, are a strong influence. There is no story or message in his work. It is about creating atmosphere, about making the viewer feel something.

Joris was recently selected for New Dutch Photography Talent 2019 by GUP magazine. He has own several awards including, the New Dutch Photography Talent 2019 by GUP Magazine, a Honourable Mention – International Photography Awards, 2018 and a Honourable Mention – Monochrome Awards, 2017.

He was selected for Fresh Eyes by GUP magazine, which celebrates the best photography talent in Europe. It is a book presenting the 100 greatest emerging photographers the continent has to offer. The first edition, FRESH EYES 2019, was launched in June 2019.
